This site is mainly a portfolio of my favourite images.
I am a sound artist and photographer producing works in residencies, for community practice and artist walks. I'm also training to be a counsellor.
I probably should have kept a better log of all the things I've done in the last 25 years but like most, I had a few obstacles along the way. The images you see on this portfolio are the best illustration of the hugely eclectic nature of the jobs and impulses I was part of.
These days, my ambition is to make a full-time living proselytising the health benefits of working with sound art, image-making and conceptual art. I was never much of a fan of the latter until I realised you could be part of it, you could write your own manifesto, even if you come from a working-class part of the UK. You can still own your ideas.
I also release music involving field recording and electronics on various imprints. My doctorate from 2009-2015 took the form of an expansive vinyl trilogy.
I have been an artist-in-residence in various UK and European locales for around twenty years. I also teach and I am an honorary research fellow at The University of Edinburgh. In the past I wrote and directed arts television programmes.
